New Years

So, it's officially 2010. I'm not one to make resolutions - I see them as things people swear they will do, or change, or whatever...and give up after two weeks.

I very much am one of those people.

So each year we traditionally watch the ball drop on the news. Some people eat black eyed peas for dinner, some people bang pots and pans, but us? We just watch the ball drop.

But this year, I threw it out the window. I'm tired of the ball drop, honestly. All it is is watching random people in Times Square yell and scream for a few hours, and bands I don't even give a care in the world for play lame music, as well as shameless advertising and annoying TV hosts. Then to top it all off, once the ball drops, you just sit around and watch thousands of people scream and make out on TV just so they can be on TV...

Yeah, I didn't miss it this year. Instead, I stayed up watching movies. (Though, that's also a tradition of ours is to watch movies till the early hours.) I watched Timeline and Traitor on Netflix. Timeline's a pretty good (and cheesy) movie, but I like it. Used to have it on DVD but we got rid of it a while ago. Traitor was really good too - my first time seeing that one. It has a bit of a liberal message, and it focuses on Islam, but it's still good if you can ignore that easily (which I can.)

Today I also went over to the Navas with my sister for some chicken posole. It was really good.

Well, hope you guys had a good New Years. I was up till 4:30 in the morning, so I am pretty tired. That's all for now!

Okay, I lied.

Well, I said I'd blog LAST night, but turns out I completely forgot about it.

I could make up some wild excuse, but they say the truth shall set you free. So...the truth.

There was this...monkey. And he ate my computer. So I couldn't blog at all. I'm sure you know how that is.

Noah knows how that is, cause this monkey used to sneak in his room at night and pee on his bed. Never did catch that monkey...

I'm out!

This one's for Abby

I was at the Rees' house today, and Abby asked if I had a blog. I gave her the link, and she didn't hesitate to point out my blog was pretty outdated...

So I've updated it now, because of ya! Maybe I'll make myself blog on here more often.

That is all. For now.

Beautiful Authority and Flying Vans

Well now, I haven't blogged in a while, but I have excuses.

Actually, no I don't.

Early this month (May 6th) my dad and I flew out to Virginia because he had several meetings for some jet stuff that I have no idea about, and most likely wouldn't understand anyway. He let me come along so I could drive across country with him, as well as see my friends from Virginia, and relatives in Maryland.

We spent one day in Virginia, and then drove up to Maryland and stayed a few days in Pax - a town in Maryland that I used to live in. We drove by Dameron - another town I used to live in, as well. We also drove up to New Windsor, my dad's home town. During that visit I saw my grandma, my dad's brother, and my dad's sister and her husband, who I hadn't seen in many, many years. I also saw my cousins, one of which I'd never met. She was a total character, and reminds me a LOT of my sister Jamie.

We drove back down to Virginia, and my friend Josh picked me up at Oceana. We spent a few days hanging out and surprising my friends, all of which didn't know I'd come to Virginia. It was really fun. I stayed at Josh's house for the days I was in Suffolk.

Two of the funniest moments went like this:

On the second night in Virginia, we went to my really good friends, Sarah and Molly's house, and we knocked on the door and I was a bit out of view from the door, so when Molly opened the door she didn't see me at first. It was really funny. Sarah was at work, and Josh called twice, leaving funny voicemails trying to convince her to come straight home.
When she came home, I was in the kitchen by myself, casually reading a magazine, trying to see what Sarah will do. I'm just out of view from the door, but there's a sort of half-wall in the hallway that looks into the kitchen. I left a note on the door that said "Hi Sarah!" on it, cause last year Josh and I came to hang out, but no one was home, so I left a note on the door that said "Hi Sarah" and she had no idea who it was from till we told her a week later.
She opened the door and laughed, thinking the note was from Josh. She passed me through the hallway going to the computer room where Molly and Josh were. She said, kind of quietly "is someone in the kitchen...?" and they said, trying so hard not to laugh "I don't know, go check."
Sarah asked if one of our friends, Robert, was in the kitchen, and Josh said no. Sarah slowly went to the half-wall-window thing, and peeked at me by the corner, and then slowly looked through the opening. Then she gasped and yelled my name, and I was attacked by a barrage of questions about why I was here, saying I was mean for tricking her, saying that it was hilarious, and the like.

Oh, and Josh and I hid her car when she was inside. But Molly ratted us out cause she feared Sarah's wrath. No fun!

On the first day I was in Virginia, a few of our friends were at the Dairy Queen in Franklin; a place that we used to hang out at. Andrea, who is a good friend of mine, and Paula, a friend of ours from Brazil were both there. Josh and another friend of ours walked into DQ before me, and I snuck in a minute or so later, but went into the bathroom first, cause there was a HUGE crowd of people, and it would be funny if my friends saw me walking out of the bathroom and sitting down beside them, cause it would confuse them even more. I came over to the table and Andrea saw me and was really surprised. Our friend Marshall also came, and he was pretty surprised, too.

I spent the day with Josh at his work yesterday, then my dad picked me up. Today's the last day in Virginia, which I'm spending at the BOQ. Tomorrow starts our long days of driving, all the way back to California.

As for the title? That would be telling.

Concert and Prety. Prety Concert? Oh, and Driver's Ed.

So, today was the last day of Driver's Ed. I scored a near-perfect on my test today, aaand I passed the class. On to DMV now.

Keep Erica Gomez (I'm pretty sure Gomez is her last name) in your prayers. She's someone who was in my class, and about 30 minutes till the class was going to end, she left the room quickly for a phone call. We heard her start balling a few minutes after. Her cousin (who was 23) was murdered by her cousin's ex-husband, as well as her second-cousin (aged 4), but we don't know why. It was utterly awful and sickening...she was literally torn apart. So just keep her in your prayers. I don't know if she was a Christian, but I sincerely hope so.

I went to the Rock the Worship Road Show concert today. Addison Road, Tenth Avenue North, Hawk Nelson, MercyMe and...Jeremy Camp! It was so fun! It was the first time I'd heard Addison and Tenth, and they were really good - I particularly liked TAN.

After the concert I waited in a random line for autographs, and it turned out to be Hawk Nelson.

My ears hurt.

Wonder why?

What happens when you put teenybopper girls between the ages of 11 and 16 in a line to meet Hawk Nelson, and then ADD Hawk Nelson??

Loud noises. Weston belongs in that crowd.

So that was all cool anyway. They were pretty cool guys though, from Canadia. I met Addison Road after that - they were kind of like, nicer, in a way. Like, HN wasn't rude, but AR talked to people more and such. They had more time I guess, doesn't matter. I would've liked to have met Tenth but the line closed too soon. I really wish Jeremy had done one!

I went to find my mom after that, and she was at the Compassion booth. MercyMe had a little segment where they talked about sponsoring children through Compassion, and I know I personally have really been wanting to sponsor a child from Asia - specifically Indonesia, for a long time. So my mom and I decided to do it. We sponsored an 8-year-old girl from Indonesia in our whole family's name. Her name is Prety Alensya Esriana Laka. I can't wait till we start writing to her and hearing more from the agency.

Quick finishing note, Exchange Students are coming, and for all you Cow-Towners, you should host one!

Today

Church was great. The message was pretty intense. It was weird, not having Jake there with us, and not seeing Alex. Geno tried to pull off Jake's bookstore sign joke, and I was just thinking to myself "don't do it...there's no way you can pull it off...oh, he's gonna do it! wow..." but then he followed up with a "if you reach the parking lot, you've gone too far." That was funny.

For those of you who don't know, we recently got a little painted sign by our chapel store that says "Chapel Store". Ironic? Not really.

The rest of my family didn't go to church today, so I had to ride home with my sister. And by ride home, I mean ride to Old Navy, Michael's, Wal-Mart and THEN home. Who cares, I got ice cream.

Speaking of ice cream...

So, while Jessie was in Old Navy, I left early to go to Wal-Mart, cause she was going to Michael's, and I hate, hate, HATE Michael's with an undying PASSION. I got bored in Wal-Mart, so I took about a 10 minute walk to the McDonald's by the Target parking lot. It's not that long of a walk really; there just was a lot of traffic. So I got a Cold Fudge Sundae, and took the same walk back, finishing my sundae by the time I got back to Wal-Mart. I walked inside the front doors, and what do I see?

A mini McDonald's. -.-

At least I got a work out...though the ice cream probably ruined all of that.

Didn't do much at home. Dinner was pretty good - my dad made it. We had talapia, which I made. And I stupidly ate the smallest amount of it, and now I feel really dizzy...

So there's a small portion of my life. Have fun with that.

Oops...

What have I been up to lately?

Me?

Oh, nothing. Just putting the wrong type of soap in the dishwasher, that's all.

The other day, after stuffing our dishwasher full of dishes, I reached into the sink cabinet (pictured to the right) for the dishwasher soap - the dry kind. And alas, there was only one load's worth left. I glanced at a large bottle of liquid soap beside the dry stuff, and I caught "dish, soap, environmental, and natural". Well, I didn't care to pull out the big thing, and read that it ACTUALLY says "Economically Friendly Liquid Dish Soap"

Oh...Dish soap. Not dishwasher soap. Oops.

So, after filling up our dishwasher earlier this night, I quickly reached for that soap. I filled up the little cup, closed the door, turned it on and walked away. Stupid? Yes.

So about an hour or so passed, and Ace of Cakes just ended, when I heard, ironically, the timer for the cake I was baking go off. I got up to go check on it, and what did I find? Take a look up there.

At first I wondered if I had put too much soap in. Maybe liquid dishwasher soap needs only about a half of the portion as dry. Then it dawned on me, and I opened the cabinet, pulled out the soap, and read "Dish Soap"

Dish soap...not dishwasher. Yeah, idiot, I know.

So I ran to the towel closet, and grabbed a HUGE stack of towels, and tried soaking up the floor mess.

Well, by then (meaning 15 minutes) I had the floor mess pretty much figured out, but soap was STILL gushing from the bottom of the door. Uh oh...

A note: I had the flash off on my camera, so all those dark spots in the picture? Yeah, filled with soap. And the bottom of our dishwasher is about 2 or 3 inches deep, as well.

So after about an hour of soaking up towel after towel with soapy water, and scooping out piles of soap with my hands, using a serious estimate of 20+ towels, I thought I had it all under control. It looked pretty clean...I didn't see much soap. So I turned on the rinse cycle, and walked off.

When the rinse cycle finished, I opened the door to see MORE soap! At least it didn't go all over the floor this time...Rinse and repeat, I suppose.

Well, after about an hour of rinse cycle, towel drying and repeating, I ran two more rinse cycles, and ALL the soap was gone! It was finished! I only drenched all of our towels. If Ben was here, he'd slap me.

Is there a lesson to be learned from this? Yeah, make sure you're using the right soap in your dishwasher! I'm kind of scared to go into the kitchen right now. The dishwasher is running, and for all I know, there could be another soap explosion.

At least half of the kitchen floor is streaky clean.
